Uttar Pradesh is poised for a significant expansion of its road network with projects worth nearly ₹60,000 crore aimed at strengthening connectivity across the state. The approved programme includes new north–south road corridors, bypasses for cities with populations exceeding five lakh, and four-lane connectivity to every district headquarters.

The announcement was made by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during the inauguration and foundation stone laying ceremony of three National Highway projects worth over ₹4,850 crore, including the 63-km Kanpur–Lucknow Expressway, in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in Lucknow.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said, "A new wave of development will flow across the northern and southern districts of Uttar Pradesh. The plan to connect these districts with better road connectivity has been approved. Along with this, every city with a population of five lakh will have a bypass, and every district headquarters will be connected by a four-lane road. Altogether, projects worth around ₹60,000 crore have been approved."

During the programme, the leaders inaugurated the Kanpur–Lucknow six-lane Expressway and the four-laning of the Hardoi–Lucknow National Highway (Package-4), while the foundation stone was laid for a four-lane flyover at Engineering College Chauraha. Earlier in the day, they also inaugurated the Kanpur–Lucknow Expressway in Unnao.

Reviewing Uttar Pradesh's infrastructure development, CM Yogi said the state has already established strong east–west connectivity through projects such as the Purvanchal Expressway, Ganga Expressway, Bundelkhand Expressway, Lucknow–Agra Expressway, and Gorakhpur Link Expressway, while the newly approved projects will strengthen north–south connectivity.

He added that the Centre has also approved the construction of bypasses in all cities with populations exceeding five lakh and four-lane road connectivity to every district headquarters. Praising Union Minister Nitin Gadkari's role, he said the Minister has consistently supported the execution of major infrastructure projects.

The Chief Minister said Uttar Pradesh has transformed from a BIMARU state into one recognised for modern infrastructure, good governance, and improved security. He noted that the state now leads the country in the number of expressways, has the largest railway network, the highest number of cities with Metro services, and the largest number of operational airports.

Highlighting other key infrastructure achievements, CM Yogi referred to the Ganga Expressway, Jewar International Airport, the Delhi–Meerut Rapid Rail, and the proposed State Capital Region (SCR) around Lucknow, stating that these projects are positioning Uttar Pradesh as a major driver of India's economic growth.

The ceremony was also attended by senior Central and State Government leaders, legislators, and other distinguished guests.
