Jaipur to Roll Out AI-Based Traffic Management System Across 253 Junctions

Road-Highway
Jaipur will replace its conventional fixed-timer traffic signal system with an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) following the successful completion of a pilot project at Rambagh Circle.

The 39-day pilot, conducted jointly by Jaipur Traffic Police and Data Core Infotech between June 3 and July 11, demonstrated the effectiveness of AI-driven traffic signal management, prompting plans to expand the system to 253 major intersections across the city.

Unlike the existing fixed-time signal system, the AI-based ITMS uses smart cameras to monitor real-time traffic volume and queue lengths, dynamically adjusting green signal durations based on congestion levels without manual intervention.

More than 4.88 lakh vehicles passed through Rambagh Circle during the trial, with motorists experiencing travel time savings of 8 to 45 seconds per lane. The average green signal duration during the pilot was 33.63 seconds.

The initiative, undertaken under the direction of Rajasthan Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar Sharma, aims to reduce congestion, improve traffic flow and lower vehicular emissions through technology-driven traffic management.
