BRICS Transport Ministers Adopt Declaration to Strengthen Sustainable Transport Cooperation

The 3rd BRICS Transport Ministers' Meeting concluded in Nagpur, Maharashtra, under India's BRICS Chairship 2026, with member countries unanimously adopting a Ministerial Declaration aimed at strengthening cooperation across key areas of transport and infrastructure.

The meeting was preceded by the 3rd BRICS Transport Working Group (TWG) Senior Officials' Meeting mduring which senior officials finalised the agenda outcomes and the Ministerial Declaration for adoption.

The declaration outlines a common framework for collaboration on circularity in infrastructure, Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), transport decarbonisation, urban mobility hubs, logistics and supply chain cooperation, and the BRICS Railway Research Network.

The declaration reflects the collective commitment of BRICS nations to advancing sustainable, resilient and efficient transport systems through consensus-based cooperation.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari thanked all member delegations for their support in achieving a successful outcome and adopting the declaration.

India expressed appreciation for the constructive engagement of all BRICS member countries and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a smooth transition of the initiatives to the next BRICS Chairship.

The four-day programme brought together transport ministers, senior officials and technical experts from BRICS member countries. Alongside the ministerial and senior officials' meetings, the event included bilateral engagements and cultural programmes aimed at strengthening institutional cooperation and people-to-people ties among participating nations.
