MP Cabinet Approves Rs 3,960 Crore for Seoni-Balaghat Highway Four-Laning
The Seoni-Balaghat section of State Highway-72 will be upgraded to a four-lane road with paved shoulders under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM). The corridor connects Seoni and Balaghat with NH-44 towards Nagpur and highways leading to Gondia, Mandla and Bhandara.
The project is expected to improve freight movement from Balaghat's mining and trading centres, including the Malanjkhand copper project and Bharveli manganese mines. It will also provide faster market access for agricultural produce and improve road safety and travel conditions in the region.
Of the total approved cost, Rs 3,458.93 crore will cover project and financial costs. The state government will contribute Rs 704.38 crore, equivalent to 40% of the construction cost, during the construction period. Another Rs 2,253.39 crore will be paid through half-yearly annuities from the state budget over the 15-year operational period, while Rs 501.16 crore has been approved for land acquisition, supervision and other pre-construction activities.
Separately, the Cabinet approved a government guarantee for a Rs 4,600-crore loan to Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation (MPRDC) from NABARD Infrastructure Development Assistance. The loan will finance the construction and widening of major roads across the state.
The roads covered under the programme include Bhopal-Vidisha, Khalghat-Manawar-Mangod, Mandsaur-Sitamau, Sitamau-Basai-Suwasra, Eastern Bhopal Bypass, Neemuch-Manasa-Rampura-Jhalawar, Indore-Depalpur, Chapda-Newari-Dewas, Dinara-Datia-Seondha, Agar-Sarangpur, Soyat-Machalpur-Jirapur, Rahatgarh-Khurai-Khimalasa and Sundra-Singhpur-Kothi-Birsinghpur-Semariya-Gohda-Sirmour.
