UP to get 2,230-km expressway network in three years

Over the next two to three years, Uttar Pradesh will have the maximum number of expressways and the longest network of e-ways passing through any state in India. The state is all set to get a network of nearly 2,230 km of expressways, as per the estimate of works completed, stretches under construction, and bids invited by different road owning agencies. While the state government has completed four expressways, including the Purvanchal expressway, work has started on three more such stretches and two of them have been completed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) — Delhi-Meerut and Eastern Peripheral Expressways. Major portions of these two are within UP. NHAI has also taken up construction of a 210-km expressway starting from Akshardham in Delhi and terminating in Dehradun and out of the total length, 191km of expressway falls in UP. The Centre has now put more focus on expressways and greenfield highways across the country. But UP has taken the lead to build its own expressways with its own funds.
