NHAI unveils 30-km long elevated corridor in Kanpur

Ganga link expressway
Union Road Transport and Highways Ministry has planned to build a 30-km long elevated corridor in Kanpur. It has initiated the process of preparing a detailed project report (DPR) for the Ganga link expressway on National Highway-34 which passes through the city and would connect its interior areas with the Ganga barrage. NH-34 passes through a densely populated area, which affects the traffic movement in the industrialized city, as such, the project would be a boon for Kanpur.

Additional Secretary, Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Amit Kumar Ghosh agreed on the financing of the project but prior to that, all necessary clearances related to various departments at the state level will have to be put in place. For the preparation of the DPR by the ministry, for which he has given his consent but asked to re-examine the project's alignment in a way that Ganga river falls in the minimum part of the road corridor.

The project was conceptualized in 2018 and was approved at the state level but eventually lost momentum due to lockdown. NHAI has now fast-tracked the mega road project.
