NHAI Agrees to Construct Two Underpasses on Ranchi-Varanasi Corridor

The decision follows a request raised by local MP Vishnu Dayal Ram in the Lok Sabha under Rule 377 on July 23. In a letter dated August 31, Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Ajay Tamta said NHAI had inspected the locations and found the proposed underpasses to be useful.
Under the proposal, a vehicular underpass will be constructed at Pokhraha, while a light vehicular underpass will come up at Jore.
Railway transmission lines will need to be raised to facilitate construction of the underpasses. According to sources, the Railways has agreed to the work and deposited Rs 3.43 crore with NHAI for the required intervention.
The underpasses could be completed by the end of 2026 if construction progresses as planned.
Residents of Pokhraha and Jore had been demanding the facilities, citing safety concerns along the NH-39 stretch. They said the absence of underpasses has increased accident risks, with vehicles travelling at speeds of up to 80 kmph on the highway.
