The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has initiated the groundwork for the proposed eastern ring road project in Pune involving ₹26,000 crore investment. The proposed 103km long eastern ring road will start from Urse toll plaza at Pune-Mumbai expressway and will pass through villages in Maval, Khed, Haveli, Daund, Purandar tehsils before merging with Mumbai-Bengaluru highway in Bhor tehsil. It will reduce traffic congestion in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad municipal corporation limits and the state government has already allocated the targeted funds for the mega road project. The road build agency has already surveyed over 150 hectares of land in Khed, Haveli and Purandar tehsils of the district amidst tough resistance from the farming community and could start work after meetings with the farmers who are particularly worried about the compensation. The land has also been measured in Chimbali, Garade, Sonori, Perne, Urse, Tulapur, Lonikand, Gavadewadi and is now carrying out the task at Khalumbre village. MSRDC needs to acquire 859.88 hectares in 46 villages in five tehsils for the project and the agency is currently signing an agreement with the farmers who have agreed to hand over their land.
