The project aims at connecting Sriperumbudur with Gudipala in Andhra Pradesh. Currently, motorists in Chennai prefer to take the Vellore-Hosur route to reach Bengaluru taking at least six to seven hours but the project will bring it down to four hours' drive.
The project involves the construction of 54 bridges, 13 vehicular subways, and six toll plazas where the idea is to construct an expressway parallel to an existing highway to reduce the travel time. To compensate, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), has promised EAC that around 1.69 lakh trees will be planted along the road project, which is expected to benefit more than 50,000 vehicles per day.
