Jewar & IGI airports get Rs 3,000-cr new road connectivity
The Union transport ministry has announced plans for a new road connectivity project that will link the upcoming Noida International Airport (NIA) at Jewar in Uttar Pradesh with the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi. The proposed road, spanning 32 kilometers, is estimated to cost around Rs 3,000 crore and is targeted for completion by June 2025, as stated by Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari. The project encompasses establishing a direct road connection between the Indira Gandhi International Airport, Jewar Airport, and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.
The intended road will not only facilitate seamless travel between the IGI airport and Jewar airport but also serve as a crucial component of the larger plan to provide world-class connectivity to the Jewar airport. Additionally, this road-link will be integrated with the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, enhancing accessibility and transportation efficiency. It should be noted that the proposed road connectivity will complement the forthcoming Metro Rail system, which is set to connect Noida International Airport with Delhi's IGI Airport via New Delhi Station. At present, the Airport Express Line, also known as the Orange Line, connects New Delhi Railway Station with the IGI Airport. To facilitate the metro rail link, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has entered into an agreement with the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEOIDA) to prepare a detailed project report (DPR).
Furthermore, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is actively developing a 31.4-kilometer, six-lane expressway that will connect the NIA with the DND-Faridabad-Ballabgarh Bypass KMP Link Spur on the Delhi-Mumbai expressway, covering a distance of 59 kilometers. This expressway project aims to enhance connectivity and facilitate smoother transportation to and from the Jewar airport. Additionally, plans for a ground transportation center (GTC) have been proposed near the Jewar airport, which will serve as a centralized hub integrating various modes of transportation under one roof.
