1,191 National Highway Projects Worth Rs 7.15 Lakh Crore Under Construction Across India

A total of 1,191 National Highway (NH) projects spanning about 25,917 km and costing Rs 7.15 lakh crore are currently under construction across India. These include around 3,100 km of highway development in border areas.

All aspirational districts in the country are now connected to the National Highway network. Highway development and capacity augmentation in remote and strategically important regions are being undertaken based on traffic demand, connectivity requirements, road conditions and alignment with the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan.

Over the past five years, National Highway projects covering 3,318 km have been awarded to improve connectivity in border areas, of which 1,301 km has been completed. Arunachal Pradesh recorded the highest awarded length at 740 km, followed by Jammu & Kashmir at 355 km, Uttarakhand at 266 km and West Bengal at 265 km.

The government is also developing ropeway networks to strengthen first- and last-mile connectivity and improve accessibility in remote areas.
