NHAI plans new highway in NCR

Sohna Alwar Road
In an attempt to boost connectivity between Haryana and Rajasthan, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has decided to develop Sohna-Alwar road on a par with national highways and the move will also help decongest Sohna road and Badshapur areas. It may be recalled that the route already has national highway status, though it does not match the required standards. Till now, the road was being looked after by PWD, which had appointed a concessionaire but remained unattended forcing NHAI to take over the road stretch. The 96 km stretch starts from Rajiv Chowk in Gurgaon and ends at the Haryana-Rajasthan border near Naugaon in Ramgarh in Rajasthan, passing through Sohna-Nuh-Firozpur Jhirka-Naugaon. It's an important lane for Rajasthan and Haryana, as a lot of domestic products, including dairy, are brought into Gurgaon and Delhi via this route and about 50,000 vehicles using the stretch every day. Commuters face congestion in many areas, while there are no service lanes in other areas, especially residential areas, which is a must for a national highway. Moreover, in areas like Badshapur, the road is extremely narrow and it is a two-lane road in a 20 km-stretch between Tawdu and Nuh, said NHAI sources.
