To bag the UP Gate-Dasna stretch of Delhi-Meerut Expressway Project entailing an investment of Rs. 1,983cr, four players have put in bids following various clearances. This was the only package of the entire Delhi-Meerut Expressway Project involving Rs. 7,583-cr investments remained to be awarded till date. The Cabinet in May, this year had approved the package II of the project for widening of the crucial UP Gate to Dasna stretch of the mega project to be built to ease traffic congestion in the national capital. The total length of the project under package II will be approximately 19 km and the work will be under the National Highways Development Project (NHDP) Phase-VI under the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM). The project is also aimed at expediting the improvement of infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh and in reducing the time and cost of travel, particularly for heavy traffic plying between Delhi-Meerut in Uttar Pradesh Border to Dasna section on National Highway-24. The other two stretches had already been approved by the Cabinet earlier. Road Transport and Highways Minister, Nitin Gadkari said that the project is to be completed in 400 days stressing that the Expressway will reduce the distance between the national capital and Meerut to 40-45 minutes from three hours currently.
