The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) recently awarded a Rs. 328-cr contract in Himachal Pradesh to NKC Project Ltd. In this connection, the nodal road building agency has already issued Letter of Award (LoA) for development of national highway section (4-Laning of Takoli - Kullu section) in the hill state under phase IV- B of National Highways Development Projects (NHDP), said official sources. They further added that the project pertains to widening of the 29 km stretch on NH 21 traversing through Chandigarh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and further connects Leh in Jammu and Kashmir. It is an important link between Chandigarh and Manali - two major tourist spots in Himachal Pradesh. As a matter of fact, the widening of the Takoli - Kullu section would achieve smooth and safe traffic flow, substantial economic gain in terms of reduced Vehicle Operating Cost (VOC) and reduced travel time. The project will have two major bridges, five minor bridges, two Vehicular Underpasses, one Vehicular Overpass and adequate road safety features. It is being built on engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) mode and the scheduled time of completion is 30 months from the date of commencement of construction works.
