Union Minister for Railways, MeitY and Information & Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnaw, announced that the South Coastal Railway Zone will be officially notified, with June 1, 2026 set as the effective date, marking a major step in strengthening railway administration in Andhra Pradesh.

The Minister also highlighted that railway projects worth around Rs 1,06,000 crore are currently under implementation in the state, aimed at improving connectivity to ports, tourism hubs and major cities. In addition, Andhra Pradesh has received a record railway budget allocation of Rs 10,134 crore.

As part of the infrastructure push, 74 railway stations are being redeveloped, while extensive capacity augmentation works including track expansion and construction of flyovers and underpasses are underway. The East Coast Railway corridor is also being upgraded to a four-line network, which is expected to significantly enhance capacity and support increased train operations.

These developments are part of a broader strategy to strengthen rail infrastructure and position Andhra Pradesh as a key logistics and connectivity hub in southern India.
