Indian Railways Inaugurates Satna-Devendranagar and Rewa-Churhat Sections in Madhya Pradesh

Satna Devendranagar & Rewa-Churhat Sections Inaugrated
Indian Railways has inaugurated the Satna-Devendranagar and Rewa-Churhat railway sections in Madhya Pradesh, strengthening rail connectivity across the Vindhya and Bundelkhand regions. A new Devendranagar-Churhat passenger train service was also flagged off during the inauguration ceremony attended by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and other public representatives, while Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw joined via video conferencing from New Delhi.

The newly commissioned sections form part of the 541-km-long Lalitpur-Singrauli Railway Project, which is intended to improve connectivity across Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh and provide rail access to previously unconnected areas.

Rewa-Churhat Railway Line Completed at Rs 1,070 Crore

The approximately 65-km Rewa-Churhat railway line has been constructed at a cost of around Rs 1,070 crore. Its completion included the final 22.5-km stretch between Rampur Naikin and Churhat, extending rail connectivity to residents of Sidhi district.

The line is expected to improve access to education, healthcare, employment and business opportunities. The region's limestone and other mineral resources, along with its cement industry potential, could also benefit from improved freight transportation.

Satna-Devendranagar Line to Support Industry and Agriculture

The approximately 53-km Satna-Devendranagar railway line has been built at a cost of around Rs 873 crore. The project was completed with the commissioning of the final 8-km stretch between Phulwari and Devendranagar.

Satna and neighbouring areas have significant limestone, cement and mineral-based industries. The new rail link is expected to facilitate the movement of cement, clinker and other goods, improve industrial logistics and reduce dependence on road-based freight transportation.

Farmers and rural traders in Devendranagar, Nagod and Panna are also expected to gain improved access to larger markets for agricultural produce, local products and handicrafts. The improved connectivity could support employment in warehousing, transport and allied services.

New Passenger Service to Improve Regional Mobility

The Devendranagar-Churhat-Devendranagar passenger train service will provide a new travel option for students, working professionals, traders, patients, farmers and daily commuters, connecting the areas through Satna and Rewa.

The service is also expected to facilitate the movement of local products to wider markets and support small businesses linked to trade, transport and food services.

Railway Expansion and Station Redevelopment in Madhya Pradesh

Ashwini Vaishnaw said railway projects worth approximately Rs 1 lakh crore are underway in Madhya Pradesh. These include new railway lines, track doubling, third and fourth lines, and gauge conversion projects across routes such as Lalitpur-Singrauli, Satna-Rewa, Katni-Singrauli, Jabalpur-Gondia, Bina-Bhopal-Itarsi, Itarsi-Nagpur, Ratlam-Khandwa, Indore-Budni, Indore-Dahod and Indore-Manmad.

The minister said the completion of these projects could enable more train services in the state, including over 100 long-distance trains and 50–60 short-distance services such as MEMU and Intercity trains in the coming years.

Station redevelopment is also underway at around 80 stations in Madhya Pradesh. Khajuraho station is being developed with architectural features reflecting the state's cultural heritage, while other stations being redeveloped include Ashoknagar, Balaghat, Beohari, Nainpur, Narmadapuram, Chhatarpur, Orchha, Shivpuri, Harpalpur, Chhindwara and Seoni.

Tourism and Local Economic Activity Expected to Benefit

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav described the new rail links as a major step towards connecting the Vindhya and Bundelkhand regions with the national railway network. He said the 541-km Lalitpur-Singrauli project would benefit areas including Lalitpur, Chhatarpur, Panna, Satna, Rewa, Sidhi and Singrauli.

Improved connectivity is expected to support agricultural market access, industrial freight movement, employment and healthcare access. It could also encourage tourism to destinations such as Khajuraho, Panna, Rewa Fort, the White Tiger Safari at Mukundpur, and Chachai and Bahuti waterfalls, benefiting hotels, local transport operators, guides and small businesses.

The railway minister also called for monitoring plantation work in the Anna region, where trees had been felled for the project. He directed railway officials and the district administration to inspect the plantation, ensure the survival of saplings and arrange additional planting where required.
