Dhaka Metro Line 1
Larsen & Toubro's (L&T) Transportation Infrastructure business has secured major design-and-build orders for two systems packages of Dhaka Metro Line 1 in Bangladesh. The contracts cover track works, electrical systems, signalling, telecommunications and platform screen doors for the country's first underground metro project.

The orders fall under Contract Package CP09, covering track works and electrical systems, and Contract Package CP10, covering signalling, telecommunications and platform screen doors. Under L&T's order classification, major orders are valued between Rs 5,000 crore and Rs 10,000 crore.

For CP09, L&T, in partnership with Japan's Sumitomo Corporation, will undertake the design, procurement, installation, testing and commissioning of track works, power supply and distribution systems, traction substations, overhead catenary systems and associated electrical facilities across the corridor.

Under CP10, L&T will execute the signalling, telecommunications and platform screen door systems across the network.

Commenting on this, Ramkumar S, Senior Vice President & Head – Transportation Infrastructure, L&T, said: “The repeat orders from Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) are a testament to L&T’s capabilities in delivering large scale, integrated urban transit projects globally. With a strong track record of delivering E&M systems for the Dhaka Metro Line 6 with the highest standards of quality and timely execution, and more recently, for the Jakarta Metro, which is under execution, we are well positioned to leverage our experience in seamlessly integrating multiple systems in close coordination with OEMs and stakeholders”.

Funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Dhaka Metro Line 1 will span approximately 31 km and comprise the Airport Route from Kamalapur to the Airport and the Purbachal Route from Natun Bazar to Purbachal Terminal. The project includes 19 stations and a depot at Pitalganj.

The CP09 and CP10 packages will provide the track, electrical and core operational systems required for the metro network. The project is intended to expand mass transit capacity in Dhaka and improve urban connectivity.

L&T's Transportation Infrastructure business undertakes rail and urban transit engineering, procurement and construction projects in India and international markets. Its previous delivery of integrated railway systems for Dhaka Metro Line 6 provides experience for the new assignment.
