Odisha has accelerated land acquisition for four new railway lines spanning 382 km, involving an investment of over Rs 7,000 crore, following the signing of an MoU with the Ministry of Railways and the grant of Special Railway Project status.

The projects include the Jeypore–Malkangiri, Jeypore–Nabarangpur, Bargarh–Nuapada and Gunupur–Theruvali lines, aimed at improving rail connectivity in remote and tribal regions and benefiting around 30 lakh people across southern and western parts of the state.

Work is progressing in mission mode across land acquisition, forest clearances, tendering and construction. The 126 km Jeypore–Malkangiri line, estimated at Rs 2,343.6 crore, will be developed with 75 per cent funding from the Railways and 25 per cent from the state government, with construction tenders already invited.
