The project covered 172 route kilometres (RKM) and 228 track kilometres (TKM) across challenging hill terrain. Its completion marks the final stretch of Assam's railway electrification programme, enabling the Ministry of Railways to announce 100% electrification across the state in September 2026.
The work was completed in phases, with individual sections handed over after construction and safety clearances. The 54 TKM Lumding–Langting stretch cleared safety inspections and locomotive trial runs in May 2023. The 51 TKM Chandranathpur–Badarpur section and the 32 TKM Langting–Maibong stretch received safety certification in March 2024.
In August 2026, Northeast Frontier Railway began operating electric goods trains on the Lumding, Langting and Maibong sections.
