Indian Railways Sanctions Rs 163 Cr Traction Upgrade on Parbhani-Mudkhed Section

The project involves upgrading the existing 1x25 kV electric traction system to an advanced 2x25 kV system across 164 track kilometres, along with associated power supply installations to cater to higher electrical loads.
The Parbhani-Mudkhed section forms part of the strategically important Highly Utilised Network (HUN) Route-9, connecting Ajmer-Indore-Khandwa-Akola-Purna-Mudkhed-Secunderabad-Mahbubnagar-Dhone.
The upgraded system will strengthen traction power supply and increase the section's capacity to handle higher freight volumes. It will also support the operation of Vande Bharat Express trains on the route.
The project is expected to contribute to Indian Railways' target of achieving freight loading of 3,000 million tonnes by 2029-30 while improving operational efficiency and reliability on the high-density corridor.
