The Central government has cleared a proposal for ₹92 crore for expansion of runway at the Jammu Airport. This will bring operations of wide-bodied aircraft such as the B-321, and thereby increase passenger flow in the state. The Jammu airport, which is in operation since 1985, belongs to the Indian Air Force and the Airports Authority of India maintains the civil enclave. The Union Environment Ministry has given clearance, with certain riders. AAI has said that 57 acres of land would be required for the extension, of which, 17 acres is under possession of the army for which working permission is being pursued. The remaining 40 acres is with the AAI.
