Delhi Approves Rs 1,000 Crore Sewage Projects To Boost Yamuna Rejuvenation

According to the Chief Minister’s Office, the government led by Rekha Gupta is implementing the projects in mission mode to reduce pollution in the Yamuna and clean the Najafgarh Drain.
As part of the initiative, approval has been granted for the construction of 12 decentralised sewage treatment plants (DSTPs) in the Najafgarh region under the AMRUT scheme at an estimated cost of around Rs 860 crore. The plants will have a combined treatment capacity of 46.5 million gallons per day (MGD).
The projects include a 17 MGD DSTP at Mitraon, along with additional plants planned at Kair, Kanganheri, Kakrola, Dichaon Kalan, Galibpur, Sarangpur, Shikarpur, Hasanpur, Jaffarpur, Kazipur and Khera Dabar.
The government said the new sewage infrastructure will benefit more than 121 unauthorised colonies, 35 villages and nearly seven lakh residents by preventing untreated sewage from flowing into the Najafgarh Drain.
In addition, Phase I of the Keshopur Sewage Treatment Plant will be upgraded, increasing its treatment capacity from 12 MGD to 18 MGD at an estimated cost of around Rs 122 crore. The project aims to improve the quality of treated wastewater in line with updated environmental standards.
The government has also approved the rehabilitation of a major trunk sewer line from Amichand Chowk to the Old Kalyanpuri Sewage Pumping Station in Trilokpuri at a cost of nearly Rs 57 crore. The existing sewer network, which is over four decades old, has faced repeated cave-ins and operational issues in recent years.
Additionally, a new underground reservoir with a capacity of 0.72 MGD and a booster pumping station will be developed in Rohtas Nagar to strengthen local water supply infrastructure.
