FM-Nirmala-Sitharaman
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman chaired the third meeting of the Apex Monitoring Authority of the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT) to review the progress of the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP) and outline priorities for the next phase of industrial infrastructure development.

The meeting, attended by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and NITI Aayog Vice-Chairman Ashok Kumar Lahiri, focused on accelerating project implementation, land allotment, investor mobilisation and production.

Sitharaman said industrial corridors are central to India's strategy for expanding manufacturing, improving logistics competitiveness and building globally competitive industrial ecosystems. She urged states to ensure timely completion of infrastructure, resolve land and connectivity issues, strengthen project SPVs and integrate planning under PM GatiShakti. She also emphasised the need for worker housing, healthcare, skilling and public transport as part of industrial development.

Piyush Goyal called for faster implementation of industrial corridor projects, greater investor outreach and the development of plug-and-play industrial ecosystems with ready infrastructure, flatted factories and worker housing. He said future projects under the Bharat Audyogik Vikas Yojana (BHAVYA) should be aligned with PM GatiShakti and designed to attract investments quickly.

The National Industrial Corridor Development Programme now covers 20 approved projects across 13 states and seven industrial corridors. Four industrial smart cities—Dholera, Shendra-Bidkin, Greater Noida and Vikram Udyogpuri—have entered the production stage, while the 12 projects approved in August 2024 are progressing with parallel infrastructure development and investor engagement.

So far, 469 plots covering around 5,348 acres have been allotted, with an estimated investment potential of Rs 2.21 lakh crore and the potential to generate 1.29 lakh jobs. A total of 134 industrial units are already operational, while 95 units are under construction.

The Apex Authority also reviewed the rollout of BHAVYA, which aims to develop 100 investment-ready industrial parks across India. Against the first-round target of up to 20 projects, 87 proposals have been received from states, reflecting strong interest in the scheme. The government said future progress will be measured by how quickly industrial projects attract investments, commence production and create employment.
