PMAY-G: 3.12 Crore Rural Houses Completed, 79 Lakh Under Construction
Against the overall target of 4.18 crore houses allocated to States and Union Territories, 3.91 crore houses have been sanctioned under the rural housing scheme.
During FY26, the government sanctioned 32.47 lakh houses and completed 26.57 lakh houses, including those sanctioned in previous financial years.
Under PMAY-G, beneficiaries construct their own houses or supervise construction, with States offering locally suitable house designs, materials and technologies. To improve construction quality, the government has also rolled out the Rural Mason Training Programme and published the PAHAL compendium of rural housing designs, accessible through the AwaasApp.
The Ministry said timely fund releases, regular progress reviews, dashboard-based monitoring, workshops with States and skill training programmes have helped accelerate construction.
PMAY-G beneficiaries also receive basic amenities through convergence with other flagship schemes, including Jal Jeevan Mission for piped drinking water, electricity connection schemes and Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana for LPG connections.
The scheme reserves up to 5% of annual targets for special projects, including rehabilitation of families affected by natural disasters, while at least 60% of the national target is earmarked for eligible Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) households.
The Ministry also stated that under PM-JANMAN, Rs 2,465.38 crore was released during FY25 and FY26 for housing of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs), against which total expenditure reached Rs 6,329.06 crore, including Central and State contributions. Over the last two financial years, expenditure under PMAY-G Special Projects stood at Rs 528.04 crore, while Aspirational Districts recorded spending of Rs 17,281.58 crore.
