Govt speeds up Rs. 1,494-cr road project

Kopri Rail Over Bridge
The authorities concerned have fast tracked the second stretch of the highway project in Upper Shillong area entailing an investment of Rs. 1,494cr. It may be recalled that the two-lane road from Sohiong in East Khasi Hills to Jengjal in West Garo Hills is nearing completion, but work on the stretch left, remained in limbo owing to the delay in land acquisition. But now the state administration has initiated the process of land acquisition to kick-start the project in the remaining portion of the stretch. The district administration has to pay around Rs. 100-cr in compensation against the land acquired for the project to make it fit for highway traffic from Upper Shillong providing direct connectivity to Jengjal, around 30km away from Tura.
