Gorakhpur Nuclear Power Project Progress Reviewed; Unit-1 Set for 2025 Start

Union Minister for Power, Shri Manohar Lal, visited the Gorakhpur Haryana Anu Vidyut Pariyojana (GHAVP) to review the ongoing nuclear power project being developed by the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) under the Department of Atomic Energy.

Gorakhpur Nuclear Power Project Progress Reviewed

The project includes the installation of 4 x 700 MWe Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs). Once operational, 50% of the power generated will be allocated to Haryana, significantly enhancing the state’s energy capacity.

For Unit-1, the first pour of concrete is scheduled for October 2025, with first criticality expected by June 2030 and commercial operation projected by March 2031. Unit-2 will begin operations six months after Unit-1.
