NHAI Organises Tree Plantation Drive along Delhi–Dehradun Corridor

To promote environmental sustainability alongside infrastructure development, a large-scale tree plantation drive was organized by NHAI along the Delhi–Dehradun Economic Corridor at Katha Toll Plaza in Baghpat district, Uttar Pradesh. As part of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0’ campaign, the initiative aims to plant approximately 40,000 trees along the corridor.

Shri V. Umashankar, Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, inaugurated the plantation drive by planting the first sapling. NHAI Chairman Shri Santosh Kumar Yadav, along with senior NHAI officials including Shri Vishal Chauhan (Member Administration), Shri Alok Deepankar (Member Technical), Shri Mohammad Safi (Regional Officer, Delhi), Shri Vishal Gupta (Regional Officer, Uttarakhand), and Shri Narendra Singh (Project Director, PIU Baghpat), participated in the event.

The Delhi–Dehradun Corridor will significantly boost connectivity between Delhi and Uttarakhand. The plantation of nearly 40,000 trees along the corridor will offer ecological benefits such as improved air quality, reduced soil erosion, and enhanced biodiversity. This integration of green initiatives with infrastructure growth establishes the Delhi–Dehradun Corridor as a model for sustainable highway development in India.

Under the broader ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0’ initiative, NHAI has already planted over 5.12 lakh trees across the National Highway network. The vision is to saturate plantations along highways by involving various stakeholders, thereby creating a greener, more sustainable National Highway network nationwide.
