Indrayani River Bridge Collapse in Pune Due to Structural Failure and Overcrowding

Indrayani River Bridge Collapse

A 32-year-old iron pedestrian bridge over the Indrayani River near Talegaon in Pune’s Maval tehsil collapsed on Sunday afternoon, reportedly due to structural failure and overcrowding. The bridge, which had already been declared unsafe, gave way under excessive load. Rust and lack of maintenance weakened the structure, while the absence of crowd control further contributed to the collapse.

Authorities have launched an inquiry to investigate the bridge’s condition and safety lapses. A new ₹8 crore bridge has been approved for construction at the site.
