For the 33.5 km-long underground Colaba-Bandra-Seepz metro line being undertaken by Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC), metro infra building giants like Siemens, L&T, Alstom, Isolux, and Bombardier, among others, are vying to bag the Rs. 23,136-cr projects. MMRC is slated to complete the bidding process and select companies for different packages including traction system, power supply, tunnel ventilation, signaling, train control, platform screen doors, and telecommunication system. Apart from this, the work also involves manufacturing, supply, and installation of various systems. This metro line will crisscross through six business districts of Mumbai – Cuffe Parade, Colaba, Bandra Kurla Complex, MIDC, Worli and Seepz, and have 27 metro stations. Siemens Ltd (India) has tied up with its German counterpart Siemens AG; similarly, Alstom Transport India is in the fray with Alstom Transport SA. The other two bidders are Larsen & Toubro-Furrer-Frey consortium and Cobra Instalaciones Y Servicios SA for installing traction system or overhead equipment. JICA is financing 57.2% of the total project cost of Rs. 23,136cr, which comes to Rs. 13,235cr, said sources.
