Kerala Sanctions Rs 25.08 Lakh for Soil Investigation for Goshree Parallel Bridge Project

Goshree Parallel Bridge
The Kerala Public Works Department has granted administrative sanction for preliminary work on the proposed Goshree parallel bridge project in Ernakulam, with Rs 25.08 lakh allocated for soil investigation.

The next step is to prepare the detailed project report (DPR), with construction expected to begin within six months.

The proposed bridge is intended to ease persistent traffic congestion around Bolgatty Junction, where heavy vehicles converge from four directions. Potholes and inadequate road width have slowed traffic approaching the first Goshree bridge, creating a major bottleneck for commuters.

The original Goshree project was planned as a four-lane transit corridor but was scaled down to two-lane bridges following environmental protests and legal disputes. With traffic volumes expected to rise further after the proposed Munambam-Azhikode bridge opens, urban planning experts and local residents have called for parallel structures alongside the first and third Goshree bridges. The second bridge already has a parallel structure.

Alongside the proposed new infrastructure, residents have also called for resurfacing the existing Goshree road and bridges using durable bituminous macadam and bituminous concrete to improve road conditions and ease travel in the near term.
