Constructed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) at an estimated cost of Rs 1,000 crore, the flyover is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Indora and Dighori. The journey, which earlier took around one hour by road, can now be completed in approximately 10 to 15 minutes.
The flyover has been constructed using Ultra High Performance Fibre Reinforced Concrete (UHPFRC) technology. According to Gadkari, the technology enables longer spans between successive piers using a single pair of structural segments, reducing the number of supports and facilitating faster construction.
The corridor connects five directions at Ashok Square, where an Ashoka Pillar has been installed along with Constitution-themed murals and illumination. Ramps have also been provided at Daga Hospital, Reshimbagh Chowk and Bada Tajbagh to improve traffic movement in densely populated areas such as Gandhibagh and Pachpaoli.
At Agrasen Chowk, an elevated passage has been constructed over the Metro corridor to facilitate multi-lane traffic movement. The flyover also provides improved connectivity between several parts of Nagpur and surrounding areas.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that the flyover would be named after Dr Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, the founding Sarsanghchalak of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, as part of its centenary year celebrations.
Fadnavis also highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects in Nagpur, including the 148-km Golden Arch Ring Road, which is aimed at supporting the city’s expansion. He said Nagpur currently has 35 flyovers, with another 15 proposed as part of efforts to improve connectivity and urban mobility.
The Chief Minister further said that a new business district is being developed as an investment hub, while land acquisition for the proposed ‘New Nagpur’ is underway. The development is expected to create additional employment opportunities.
Nagpur Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said the flyover would improve connectivity not only between northern and southern Nagpur but also with areas in Nagpur rural, including Hudkeshwar, Narsala, Besa and Pipala.
Officials from NHAI and representatives of the project contractor, NCC Limited, were felicitated during the inauguration programme.
