BMC's long-pending project to build a bridge between Versova and Madh Island is set to kick off with the appointment of a consultant by the civic body. The bridge will bring down travel time from Versova to Madh from 1 hour to 20 minutes. The body has appointed TP Engineering for the ₹350 crore project. Madh Island is 20 km from Versova and is currently accessible only by a ferry and an alternative route from Kandivali Link Road to Marve and then to Madh is 22 km. The bridge will run parallel to Versova-Madh jetty and will be 27.45 mt (90 feet) wide and will pass over the proposed coastal road. There will also be an option to take a u-turn on the coastal road and take the bridge to reach Versova, said Additional Municipal Commissioner Vijay Singhal.
