Bihar Makes Geospatial Analytics Mandatory for Infrastructure Projects Above Rs 50 Cr

BIRSAC
The Bihar government has made the use of geospatial analytics mandatory for all infrastructure projects worth Rs 50 crore or more. Under the state’s BIRSAC Geo-Spatial Service Usage Policy, geospatial analytics will now be a required component in the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) of such projects, and all departments must systematically utilise BIRSAC’s geo-spatial services.

The move is expected to prevent duplication of work, reduce project costs and enable early identification of hurdles such as land acquisition issues, forest clearances and cross-drainage requirements. The decision was taken at a review meeting of the Bihar Remote Sensing Application Centre (BIRSAC), chaired by Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit.

Geospatial analytics uses geographic and spatial data, high-resolution imagery and artificial intelligence for applications in urban planning, logistics, environmental analysis and infrastructure management. The state government believes its integration will improve planning, monitoring and execution of major public infrastructure projects.
