Centre Approves DPRs for Key Highway Projects in Dakshina Kannada to Ease Traffic and Boost Connectivity

Road-Highway
The Centre has approved the preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for major highway upgrades in Dakshina Kannada. The approvals include widening the Surathkal–BC Road stretch via the Mangaluru Bypass and building service roads along NH-66 from Talapady to Kundapur.

The move marks an important step toward strengthening road infrastructure along the coastal belt, addressing long-pending demands related to traffic congestion, port connectivity and road safety. The highways serve as primary entry corridors into Mangaluru and are crucial for daily passenger movement as well as cargo transportation to and from New Mangalore Port.

Due to capacity constraints and lack of service roads, the region has faced persistent congestion and safety issues. The approved DPRs pave the way for long-term solutions that will improve mobility, logistics efficiency and urban connectivity across Dakshina Kannada.
