Sustainability is at the core of our corporate philosophy and every function is responsible to support our ambition.![]()
Volvo CE India - Dimitrov Krishnan, Managing Director
We are encouraged by the Government’s ambition to achieve net-zero emissions and are committed to support the same through our sustainability ambition. We have established a strategy with targets and aspirations in three key areas where we can have a significant impact: People, Climate, Resources.
New technologies driving sustainable solutions
The core of Volvo’s operations lies in the transition to fossil-free and sustainable transportation, mobility, and infrastructure solutions. Our primary focus is on developing and providing sustainable solutions that boost productivity while simultaneously reducing emissions, energy usage, and waste.
By prioritizing sustainability, we foster innovation and work towards a brighter future for our customers and the planet. To ensure our progress, we have committed to Science Based Targets, aiming for a net-zero emissions value chain by 2040, with an interim goal of achieving 35% fully electric sales by 2030.
We have been investing in multiple zero-emission and alternate fuel technologies to reduce or mitigate carbon emissions from our equipment. These include battery powered electric machines, hybrid electric, grid connected electric, hydrogen fuel cells powered electric, and hydrogen-injection in combustion engine. We are also investing in exploring use of alternate fuels such as biodiesel (FAME), etc. to leverage our existing ICEs and enable lower emissions.

Connected machines
Higher productivity and better fuel efficiency has been our constant endeavor. Connectivity solutions such as our CareTrack telematics system use telemetry data to help organizations understand the operating pattern, monitor machine health, and offer insights to maintain the equipment in an optimal condition, improve productivity and fuel efficiency, which results in lower emissions. We encourage usage of our CareTrack solution to get insights into customer operations and help reduce emissions.
Initiatives across the value change
We have been looking at the overall value chain when it comes to emission mitigation. Starting with supply chain where we are also looking to procure fossil-free produced metals to build our equipment. Usage of reusable packaging boxes, zero-emission material handling equipment within factory premises and powering our manufacturing facilities using renewable energy are some of the other initiatives to reduce our emissions across the value chain.
