TT Trucking Enabling Fast Deliveries

Debajyoti Bagchi, Vice President
Debajyoti Bagchi, Vice President – Trucking & Air Cargo Charters, TT Group, informs how digitalization is helping them ease out inefficiencies and reduce turnaround time.

How has the cross-docking solutions by TT Trucking helped ease inefficiencies in logistics?
TT Trucking is into cross-docking for the last 5 years; the concept has immense potential to deliver much like the hub and spoke model. Firstly, it minimizes the touch points in supply chain. The goods are consolidated at one place followed by subsequent distribution to the satellite destinations. The cross dock also helps maintain the equilibrium between demand and supply at any given time. The major advantage is that it meets the transit time, maintains optimum inventory, and makes the product available to the end-user on time.

The LIFO (Last In First Out) concept helps to reduce the turnaround time at the CD facility, while digitization helps to record and trace any item, based on its location. The local distribution through EVs also contributes towards reducing CO2 emissions.

How does Bonded Trucking Services of TT Trucking assist in delivering ODCs?
The ODC is a special category which needs a special transportation system - either road, rail, air, or sea. The bonded trucking service that TT trucking offers eventually eases the logistics challenges of our clients. But it requires a lot of attention from different stakeholders and continuous follow-ups till the time the cargo reaches its destination.

We ensure that all the specific arrangements are done at the airport when offloading the cargo without any damage. We can also deliver directly to the aircraft without offloading at the cargo terminal, as per the client’s requirement.

How has digitalization enabled efficiencies at TT Logistics?
Digitization and automation are facilitating smooth operations, which is building confidence in our customers. TT Trucking has its own software developed in-house for the important functions of our Air Cargo GSA businesses. We have developed an intranet system where all the information is available to employees to access at any point of time. Our special tracking Truck Watch App enables customers to track their cargo movements 24x7. We always use share points/one drives to store all information that can be accessed by our employees.

The ERP in our insurance broking business creates a dedicated platform for the public, which is integrated with major insurance companies for customers to get comparative quotes, place the insurance bookings and risk coverage, and download the policies.

This year, the TT Group has taken proactive measures to reduce carbon footprints such as recycling through available resources and saving the trees.

Please tell us about a recent challenging project undertaken by TT Trucking.
In May’22, there were satellite parts from ISRO to be transported from the Chennai airport to the Mumbai airport. The client did not want the cargo to be offloaded at Chennai since the cargo was shock-proof and temperature-controlled.

So, the satellite was loaded in a 40-ft open trailer with a specially designed closed case, and temperature controlled by a generator attached to the trailer. It was escorted throughout its journey to the destination, where it travelled only by day. On arrival, the cargo was directly offloaded in the ramp near the aircraft after getting all the necessary statutory permissions from the authorities.

What are the company’s plans for expansion?
I am pleased to share that we will be soon entering the air cargo charter market. Our sales and operation teams are air cargo professionals and highly competent in their respective domains.

We understand the pain points of the customers and the difficulties in reaching their cargo to the destinations. Our air charter service will be developed as a one-stop solution and will include trucking, freight insurance and charter options.
