Trimble upbeat on Tekla's prospects in India
Besides Mr. Nirmalya Chatterjee, others who participated in the meet were Mr. Sampo Philli-Sihvola, Director, Precast and Mr. Jayant Keswani, Marketing Director, Trimble India. The discussion was focused on key issues like – how the acquisition of Tekla would help improve Trimble's organizational competitiveness; and how would the company take advantage of emerging construction business opportunities through its software, hardware and services, to facilitate business growth in the growing domestic construction industry. Other issues like factor prohibiting faster growth of precast technology/segment and rationalization of IS building codes to align with present day construction practices and requirements were also discussed.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Chatterjee explained the genesis and rationale of this acquisition, which he said, was aimed at consolidating Trimble's presence in the construction industry and expand its portfolio of offerings for the construction industry by making available an extensive portfolio of synergistic hardware, software and service offerings..
He explained about various Trimble software solutions, 3D constructible models and its cloud based collaboration platform which helps in streamlining the DBO lifecycle and enables professional teams engaged in the projects to achieve transformative results by collaborating in real time. Mr Chatterjee also explained various initiatives being taken to create awareness about its products and services by forging active contacts with professional bodies and academic institutions like the IITs. In addition to these, he informed that the organization puts a lot of effort in training its users to help me use its software optimally
Talking about precast technology, Mr. Sampo Pilli stated that precast technology can resolve various functional issues and serves both architectural as well as structural requirements seamlessly. However, awareness about its manifold benefits needs to be promoted to avail its multiple advantages in terms of speed, quality, and durability of construction. The problems being faced by the structural engineers in building large structures can well be resolved through the application of precast construction method but the technology needs to be promoted more proactively for broader adoption.
Intervening in the discussion on the reasons for limited number of players in precast construction yet, Mr. Chatterjee attributed that industry's mindset is the biggest road block for the low penetration of this technology in the construction sector and which, he emphasized, needs to be tackled both at the industry level and across various platforms nationally to further the cause of this effective technology. And in this process, Trimble would play its role effectively and keep supporting these measures fully. He called for a quicker resolution and rationalization of IS building norms/codes so that these are aligned with present day construction practices and realities.
