Gopi Krishna More, Managing Director, Torsa
What strategies is Torsa using to expand its business?
Traditionally, Torsa has remained focused on its aggregates crushing and screening business, catering to the North-Eastern markets of India. We are now looking to leverage our business acumen by tapping the markets in the Eastern parts of India which is seeing a lot of construction activity requiring crushing and screening jobs.We have on board a prominent investor whose capital infusion will serve to widen and further strengthen our manufacturing capabilities and marketing initiatives. We have set up a new manufacturing unit at Sankrail near Kolkata and have strengthened our sales and parts support. The new integrated manufacturing facility will enable us to meet demand in the East India markets of West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Odisha, and we will also tap business opportunities in Bhutan and Nepal, and even Madhya Pradesh in the near future.
What products will be manufactured at Torsa’s new facility?
The new manufacturing unit has the capacity to produce 100 units of crushing and screening plants every year. Currently, it is running at 50% of its capacity. We have a wide range of 40 to 300 tph skid and wheel mounted plants on chassis and sand manufacturing systems based on wet process. There is demand for the medium and higher range of these plants, which will be produced at the new facility, allowing us to also reduce the cost per unit of our products for the benefit of our customers.
This is because the higher production (based on anticipated higher business volume) is likely to bring down production costs at the new plant, which already has close to 15% lesser production costs compared to Torsa’s plant in Amingaon in Assam. We will select advanced materials and production processes to further curtail production costs.
How is Torsa dealing with competition in the market for crushing and screening plants in India?
Torsa has a very strong brand recall in the Eastern and North-Eastern markets, plus our cost competitiveness compared to other foreign and Indian crushing manufacturers, gives us an advantage over them. So, we are on a strong footing to promote our products in other markets as well.We are banking on our new, skid mounted 150-300 tph plant to increase sales. This plant with jaw and cone configuration is modular in design, highly stable, quick to set up, and requires very little civil foundation work. It is PLC based, and easy to configure and operate. With its robust metallurgy in the core concave and mantle design of the cone, it will incur a lesser operating cost.
We are exploring opportunities in the mobile track mounted segment where demand is on the rise.
