NORD Drivesystems expands production capacity in Pune

NORD Drivesystems announced the expansion of its third facility at Hinjewadi, Pune. The inauguration was done by Vikram Kumar (IAS) Metropolitan Commissioner, PMRDA in the presence of Jutta Humbert, Managing Partner, NORD Drivesystems Group, P L Muthusekkar, MD, NORD Drivesystems, and other dignitaries.

In India, the company has an installed capacity to produce 42,000 geared motors per annum, and 22,000 Electrical Motor Assembly with a utilization factor of 75 to 80% at its two plants in Hinjewadi. Considering the growing Indian market, NORD India consolidated its presence further by increasing its production capacity, especially for the large gearboxes and IGUs (Industrial Gearbox Units).

The newly expanded plant in Pune is adjacent to the company’s two other plants and is spread on an area of 7211 sq.m with the building area measuring 3213 sq.m. Here, the company will produce large gearbox assemblies to meet the increasing demand in the domestic market. The plant will also have a bigger warehouse, making way for more production space in the existing building for medium size geared motors. The facility got BIS approval in 2018, and its ISI marked motor production has recently been enhanced to include all motor ranges up to 55KW rating.

With time, NORD India plans to include new gearbox variants in its product portfolio such as Industrial Gearbox Units (IGU), along with a specialized paint shop. With the commissioning of the expanded facility, NORD India would be catering almost 90% of its catalogued products for the domestic market and for the SAARC countries. The company has been growing at about 20% CAGR for the last 8 years with its make in India (Maharashtra) products since 14 years.
