Murphy's Controls Deliver Preventive Maintenance and More….

What are the major attributes of your intelligent equipment solutions?
We at Murphy by Enovation Controls believe equipment need to be made intelligent. A Display, a controller or an I/O Module integrated smartly into the equipment can contribute towards higher equipment uptime, equipment safety and preventive maintenance. The display allows the operator to monitor the condition of the equipment during the course of operations and gives him alerts and warnings on any issues in the equipment. This helps them undertake preventive maintenance if required. This can resultantly neutralize extended downtime in a major way as operators look for extended deployment of their assets, so as to generate surplus cash that can go on to meet their repayment obligations as well as generate decent profits, not to mention deliver better lifecycle costs.
What are the operational characteris- tics of your solutions? How are they competitive as compared to the conventional systems?
Our solutions work to integrate the entire equipment, engine, transmission, hydraulics, payload, camera, safety, and other systems in real time with set-point based safety alarms. This is cumbersome and mostly not possible in conventional systems. Icons, round gauges, bar graphs, and pop-ups in application and customer specific layouts make our display systems extremely user-friendly. Comprehensive multi-language text based fault warnings and acknowledgement system keep the operator aware of health of the equipment. The systems supplied continuously monitor system critical parameters and the control module then takes logical decisions based on set points. This then automatically triggers interlocks, alarms, or even equipment shutdown in the equipment. We also integrate other equipment parameters and sensors like length transducers, proximity sensors, load cells, inclinometers, and angle sensors. These among many can also be directly configured for display and alarm triggers.
What are the other competitive advantages making them suitable for the Indian job site conditions?
We probably have the most robust and rugged displays in the market. Our display and control modules are rated IP67 which makes them dust and waterproof, take 8g of vibration, 50g of shock, and are rated to work from -40 to +85 degree Celsius. All our displays are Sunlight Viewable – This is a very often ignored factor but very critical in the Indian environment. The displays show Equipment Parameters, Service Reminders, Error pop ups, Corrective Actions, Service Manuals, Contact details and are can also be connected to Telemetry solutions for Remote monitoring purposes.
Could you please shed light on the range of display solutions offered by Murphy?
Murphy offers a range of display solutions, suiting to the requirements of varied range of construction equipment. Our flagship offering is the 'Powerview 780' 7 inch Flexible CAN-based display solution suitable for Equipment with both Mechanical and the latest Tier IV Final electronic Engine. It comes in both Regular and Touch screen versions. With rich full colour graphics, 3 x Video Inputs and a host of other features it really adds to the feature set and value of any equipment that uses it.
The PV450 and the PV480 are two 4.3 inch displays that are great for mid segment applications. They have almost the entire feature set of the PV780 and like the 7 inch are also programmed using the Powervision interface.
PV 380 is a Monochrome display for advanced monitoring of both electronic and mechanical engines. This is very popular in India and is a great solution for equipment in range of 10 to 30 Lakhs. It is an easy to read 3.8 inch QVGA monochrome LCD. The displays are capable of handling sophisticated engine diagnostics as well as basic engine alarms and shutdowns.

PV 101 is our basic "Out of the box" display for electronic engines. Customers can use this right out of the box and it needs no custom programming. It can display upto four engine/ transmission and auxiliary parameters simultaneously. It also has alarm and shutdown lights, plus detailed diagnostics.
Who are the major OEMs using your integration solutions?
FW Murphy supplies its Equipment Integration Solutions to several Major Equipment manufacturers globally. The list includes, CAT, Shantui, BEML, Dressta, Atlas Copco, John Deere, Vermeer, XCMG, Volvo, just to name a few. We work primarily in the OEM market and so have longstanding relationships with Equipment & Engine OEMs that include, Perkins, Cummins, Caterpillar, John Deere, Kubota etc.
It is important to note that all our Indian OEMs are supported on application engineering, equipment study and product customization by our team in Pune. This gives them a local contact, a communicable face and most importantly vastly reduced time lines which is very important to them.
What else do you offer to the equipment manufacturers?
The Displays become the Centre of the Integration as they themselves have processing and "thinking" ability. We then use several I/O Modules like the 'SenderCAN', the 'MeCAN' and the 'XM500' to integrate other sensors and features into the system. We integrate systems which have as high as 60 to 70 inputs and this then is done through complex and sometime custom I/O Modules.
The IX3212 or the Power Distribution Module is the Next Generation in Equipment Power Management. This replaces all your conventional Fuses and Relays, and replaces it with an intelligent system that is Rugged, Compact and most importantly Intelligent. This then can drive Lights, Wipers, Horns, Work Lights, Motors, Valves etc.
Anything New at EXCON 2015?
At Excon we are launching the PV780 7 inch TOUCH Screen display in India in both 10 button and Single Button versions. We are also showing the PV480 display module for the first time in India. Looking at solutions we are showing the CAN Equipment Black box and a CAN Telemetry Solution. The Blackbox is what a Blackbox should be. It sits in your equipment and records data throughout the warranty period and beyond. With normal and burst mode recording, it is great for error finding in case there is a major issue. The CAN Telemetry Solution helps link equipment with remote computers. This is a great way of keeping a broad watch on the working equipment on the field.
