Interarch: PEB Demand to Grow
As affordable housing gets infrastructure status, do you feel PEB can emerge as a preferred building material for low-cost housing projects?
The market for steel construction is growing exponentially in India with consumers opting for new-age technologies as well as the need for rapid infrastructure development to match the economic growth of the country. The advantages of having a steel structure or building over a concrete one are far too many, and we aware that affordable house is going to be the next big thing for pre-engineered steel building players. We, however, feel that it may take couple of years more to change the perception of people, and to convince the government official the benefits of making in steel over RCC.
With FM’s announcement to complete 1 crore houses by 2019, how do you see the demand of new construction technologies like PEBs, prefab, etc., that help to execute projects in lesser time and with less resources?
The biggest advantage of using pre-engineered structural steel system is time saving, as steel is manufactured in a plant and directly shipped to site for erection. Buildings can be completed faster and upto 40% of time can be saved in overall execution.
Also, only erection of the building is done at site using nut bolts assembly by skilled workforce, lesser resources are used also, there is not much dependency on labours. Even the chances of delay in project timelines due to various external factors are reduced by almost 80-90%.
How do you look at the scope of PEB in railway and metro sectors?
Currently, almost all Railway stations and Metro stations are using Pre-Engineered Steel for construction of new stations. Even Train depots, Skyways, and Foot over bridges over railway track are being built using Pre-Engineered Structural Steel. We feel this allocation will definitely have a positive outlook for the Pre-Engineered Building Industry. Interarch have recently finished Bridge Girder Project for Delhi Metro and we are currently working on Mumbai Metro Depot at Taloja, Mumbai.
What are the other potential application areas for PEB?
Now days more than 95% of industrial construction for plants and warehouse buildings are done using pre-engineered steel. With many state governments providing a favorable environment and tax benefit to set-up new industries, we feel the infrastructure development is going to accelerate in years to come. Industries like Automotive and Automotive Ancillary, Cement, Manufacturing, Power Plants, Ports, Warehousing, etc., are ideal for pre-engineered buildings and these sectors have a huge opportunity in time to come and we are all geared up.
In terms of eco-friendly and safety features, how do you compare PEB with conventional building materials? What are the innovation/development going on to make the product most favorable?
What is Interarch’s long-term strategy to gain maximum market share?
We are focusing on providing international quality buildings to our customers; we have enjoyed a good market share in the industry and are placed in the top 3 of the PEB manufacturers in India. The last few years have been exceptionally good for Interarch and we have grown year-on-year in terms of topline. This year also, in 40 days we have won orders for over `150 crore from Parle Agro Pvt Ltd, Greenply Industries Ltd, Asian Paints Ltd, Tata Motors Ltd, Safex Logistics Solutions Pvt Ltd etc. and many others.
