Mahendra K. Agarwal, President G R Infraprojects Ltd., expresses satisfaction with Terex crushers for their technical attributes and reasonable cost of operation

How do you assess the current business scenario of the infrastructure industry and road sector in particular?

The Central Government has made its intention clear to improve surface connectivity till the district level, through projects like Bharatmala, Setu Bharatam, and Sagarmala, which gave a big boost to the overall infrastructure industry. Focus on quality development and completion timelines has forced the industry to upgrade its technical skills and a reliable product range.

To step up road construction from the current 22 km/day to 40 km/day, do we have enough expertise and workforce, and can we build quality roads at this speed within the stipulated timeframe?

Looking at the government’s focus and opportunities, we have kept ourselves aligned to the growth of the infra sector. We have a record of before or on-time delivery of all our projects and we have built up construction capabilities by owning and deploying the best resources, including best-in-class machineries and construction methodologies. Gradual backward integration of critical construction materials has helped us maintain quality and timely delivery of materials. Future-ready deployment has been our motive to meet the emerging business requirement.

What does a contractor need for timely project execution?

Advance technology and high-end equipment are the need of the hour for every contractor. Understanding future technology and right selection of equipment has always been our core strength. Our technical team focuses on inducting the latest technology in all critical areas. We invested in the best crushing plants, asphalt plants, pavers and other construction equipment which are critical for timely execution of projects.

To keep a road projects on track, a continuous supply of quality aggregates is very important; what is GRIL’s aggregate requirement and the crushing plants in its fleet?

Availability of quality aggregate is key for successful execution of a project, and we have our own crushers which produce around 15-20,000 tons of aggregates per day at various projects. We have six direct and exclusive sub-contracts for four crushing and screening plants, some of which have about 10,000 hours of operation, all within reasonable cost. Terex crushers are very reliable and their quality of aggregates produced satisfy our quality norms.

How are Terex products as regards their productivity, efficiency, operation and maintenance?

We have been using Terex Crushers since 2010 and have clocked nearly 10,000 hours of operation and still counting. Terex crushers are technologically advanced. Their fixed shaft crushing technique provides better shape of aggregates and reasonable cost. Automation in crusher helps in quicker diagnosis and easier operation, and we are satisfied with their performance.

Recently, GRIL has added a Terex MPS wheeled plant to its fleet. What are the plant’s USPs?

Repeat orders are a result of good products with better technologies, supported by a skilled team which has a positive attitude to resolve problems. Terex has earned our trust and is getting repeat orders. The MPS wheeled plant has faster erection and is working near its rated capacity and producing high quality aggregates as per our requirements and expectations at a reasonable cost.

How will Terex’s initiative to provide operator training support infra development in India?

One of the biggest challenges in executing projects is the severe shortage of skilled manpower and their high attrition rate. Terex not only provides field training and refresher courses at sites, but also classroom programs at its Hosur facility to build concepts and train fresh candidates. The advantages of such training include intangible benefits like proper maintenance of the machines, fewer breakdowns and healthy equipment.
