Epiroc: Strong in India
Jerry Andersson, Managing Director, Epiroc Mining India, shares the reasons behind the company’s sustained growth in India over 60 years.
What is the thought behind the company’s tagline ‘Strong Foundations... Stronger India’?
Epiroc has completed 60 years in India, during which time, our machines have helped build India’s infrastructure for excavation of aggregate quarry from coal, iron, limestone for cement, underground metal, and dimension stones, to construction of rail and road tunnels, hydropower and irrigation projects, to oil cavern excavations. As we take stock of our heritage and our current projects, we are proud to say that Epiroc is contributing towards building a stronger India. Our partnership with India will continue to be promising with bigger projects and enhanced responsibilities. We are undertaking many new initiatives which will be rolled out this year, both internally and externally.
What has made Epiroc a top player in India for six decades?
I believe it is constant innovation while developing new products and reliable customer support and services. Our customers are our top priority and we develop solutions customized to their requirements and with enhanced safety and higher productivity. We collaborate with our customers to help them grow their business and profitability. It’s our commitment, knowledge and ability to act, that sets us apart from competitors and makes us market leaders in India.
How will Epiroc increase its manufacturing capabilities in the coming years in a highly competitive market?
Competition has become fiercer and more and more products are coming to India from global manufacturers. Recently, we decided to close one facility in Italy and move production to India. We are making the products for Indian and global markets from here. We also keep developing new products, such as the exploration drill C6T, which was released in India in 2019, and we will continue to come up with more products. Development never stops! So, we remain positive of the Indian market.
We plan to continue to grow as a company and be agile to meet the evolving demands for more productive and quality products. India is an important market as well as a manufacturing hub for Epiroc. Markets change over time, especially fast-growing markets like India. The demands are not the same as they were 20 years ago, and they will not be the same 20 years from now. So, it is important that we continue to adapt to the changes to meet customer expectations, and we plan to be here for another 60 years!
As an environment-conscious company, how does Epiroc give back to society?
It’s important that we give back to nature, to the environment, and to the society at large. We have formed a trust, which takes complete responsibility as a socially responsible company. We have several projects that are handling various aspects of nature, environment, women and children in India. We have taken baby steps now but we are confident that they will become very meaningful contributions soon.
