Doosan Compressors
N Ramachandran, Managing Director
"We are doing R&D on 3 aspects: for the sustenance of our existing products, development of new products, and for imbibing new technologies. We have developed more than 15 compressor models and 3 light tower models in India. Our parent organization has been supporting us in our R&D efforts with technical know-how and investments over the years, which has helped us in improving our capabilities."
Air compressors market is expected to grow with large infra projects, quarrying, mechanized mining norms, electrification of mines, and so on.
Large infrastructure projects like Bharat Mala, Maharashtra Samruddhi, Poorvanchal Expressway, the new, ongoing Airport projects in Mumbai, and the one announced in Jewar, will drive quarrying business. Mechanized mining would be the norm, as these projects are being framed with stiff timelines, and installation of large capacity crushers for the projects would need highly mechanized mining to evacuate the blue metals (aggregates).
A favorable duty structure for domestic minerals like iron ore, copper, aluminium etc, will drive mining demand within the country. Regional air connectivity through the UDAAN scheme of the government is also expected to drive quarrying because of the budgetary allocations made. Electrification of mines will drive compressors fitted with electric motors, due to rising diesel prices.
The air compressors market is expected to grow considering these factors, however, uncertainty over mining in Goa, the crack down on mining in Orissa etc, will act as dampeners.
We are coming out with futuristic models in view of the emission norms.
Our wide range of compressed air solution packages include a small range of 250 to 415 cfm low pressure category, which caters to quarrying with jack hammers. We offer mining compressors that work with crawler drills in higher pressures in the 400 cfm to 675 cfm range. These are available for mounting on deck with a drill as well as in tandem operation.
Our products come with both Cummins and Ashok Leyland engines. We have successful installations for excavator-mounted compressors for coal over burden drilling, and we are coming out with futuristic models in view of the emission norms. We offer product support solutions like exchange air-ends for all our products.
Doosan is making major efforts in electronic engine powered compressor package development.
There are many areas of advancement where Doosan is working to improve its product performance and reliability. Major efforts are being made in the electronic engine powered compressor package development, which is more efficient in terms of fuel economy, performance, and emission.
All new compressor packages are developed on a 'Silenced Box' design concept for lower noise levels than the earlier models. Continuous improvements are on for making the products and parts more environment-friendly with alternate materials, consumables and improved life of the replacement parts.
We have made pre-filters a standard fitment even in our smallest compressors.
Our product development is driven by customer feedback and our product prototypes are developed, tested in field, and validated before they are ready for sales. During this process, we do an in-depth study of their application, for example, we have compressors for operation with a hydraulic drill and a 100% pneumatic drill as their air consumption is different. We have made pre-filters a standard fitment even in our smallest compressor as many quarrying sites are dusty and customers have no control over the environment they operate in.
Our remanufactured air-ends and hydraulic motors used on our ATC mechanisms prolong life of compressors.
The IOT is a work in progress for us at the moment. We give remanufacturing support to our customers by way of remanufactured air-ends with an assurance, and hydraulic motors which are used on our unique Automatic Temperature Control ( ATC) mechanisms. These benefit customers immensely to prolong the life of the compressor and also ensure performance.
