We are confident that Changlin India will grow in the next 2-3 years and will be the top Chinese brand selling in India, in segments like Motor Grader and Wheel Loader where Changlin is very strong," says Mr. Phil Hu, CEO, Changlin India, in an interview with Maria R.

How do you see the demand of earthmoving and road construction equipment in India in coming years?
The demand of construction equipment in the Indian market is certainly large. With the government emphasizing on more infrastructure projects, the need for construction and road building equipment is increasing year on year basis. In three years time, the need for wheel loader and motor graders is going to increase by 100%.

Changlin - Competitive in Performance and Price

It is quite some time now that you have launched your products in the Indian market; how has been the response so far?
Most responses are positive which bring us more confidence in setting up subsidiary in India. The market for Changlin Motor Grader and Wheel Loader has been tremendous and due to the successful performance, we are getting repeat orders from customers which inturn speaks of our quality.

Despite the demand of top quality and high end products, the Indian customers are very sensitive on the price front; how are you maintaining equilibrium between affordability and reliability?

As Indian customers are quite price sensitive, localization of your products is the only way to bring the cost dow; what is the status of your manufacturing facility planned to come up near Chennai in India?

We have set up a subsidiary - Changlin Construction Machinery India Pvt Ltd in Chennai, February this year, and had started high sea sales and bonded sales from July. As there is a large manufacturing capacity in our parent plant, the cost of equipment is competitive as of now. In future, when the need arises we will explore the possibility of setting up the plant in India.

Trained operators is the other factor which needs immediate attention; what initiatives are being taken by your company to impart training to the operators so that the machines can be utilized to its maximum potential?
We would definitely organise training programe for dealers, affordable engineers and customers, operators, either in China or India however, we have professional engineers from both the countries who could offer service properly and train the customer's operators and engineers in Indian working site.

It is general perception in India that Chinese companies have good products but are unable to provide effective after sales service; what is your take on this?
Changlin spare parts centers are set and stocked both in Chennai and Hyderabad. Our dealers in each state is also required to stock certain parts for quick service purpose. With Changlin Construction Machinery India Pvt Ltd a fully owned subsidiary of Changlin Company Ltd China being operational, after sales service and parts management to dealer and customer has improved tremendou- sly. There is now no waiting period for spare parts and service support.

How do you see your business in India in the next 2-3 years?
We are confident that Changlin India will definitely grow in the next 2-3 years and hope that it will be the top Chinese brand selling in India, in segments like Motor Grader and Wheel Loader where Changlin is very strong.

What is the focus of your participation in Excon-2011 and what types of equipment are you going to display at the event?
We meant to attract new dealers and end users as well as meeting old friends, what’s more we want to announce Changlin India’s birth to everybody.
