2018 has set a new benchmark in sales of Earthmoving equipment.
The first half of 2018 saw a surge in demand by 33% in Earthmoving equipment compared to 2017. We saw 11% growth in the loader backhoe segment; 16% in Compactors; and 20% in Motor Graders. We are optimistic of increase in volume for the next year as well. The surge in demand was due to increased activity in the construction and mining sector. In view of the prevailing (favourable) conditions in the country and more foreseeable infra development, the Construction Equipment market will continue to see an upward trend in the coming years.
IoT and artificial intelligence are the next big thing in the construction industry.
There are a number of ways in which we can innovate and apply these technologies to boost the industry. For instance, productivity can be enhanced as these technologies can curtail downtime of machines, and give solutions for other important issues such as repair and maintenance. If a machine is repaired when the wear starts, the owner would incur less cost. IoT allows companies to tackle this problem head with equipment monitoring, wherein sensors in the machine detect maintenance requirements, send automated alerts for preventive maintenance, compile usage, maintain data and increase efficiency by remotely monitoring fuel consumption.
These solutions can further help to understand signals and patterns to deploy real-time solutions, cut costs, prioritize preventative maintenance, and prevent unexpected downtime. Advanced machine-control technologies ensure timely completion of projects, and there is also an improvement in the quality of work. Technology also looks at optimum utilization of equipment as per the required standards.
