Volvo EC210D Fuel-Efficient Hydraulic Excavators
Volvo EC210Ds hydraulic excavators save costs for Trans-Sumatra highway project, Indonesia
Two Volvo EC210D excavators are building a section of the Trans-Sumatra Toll Road in Lampung, Indonesia. The project is part of the government’s initiative to boost Sumatra’s development
Two Volvo EC210D hydraulic excavators have been deployed to build the first highway in Lampung province, Indonesia. The 140.9-km Bakauheni-Terbanggi Besar toll road, part of the Trans-Sumatra Toll Road, will connect Lampung in the south to Aceh in the north along the east of Sumatra Island. Indonesia’s President, Joko Widodo, launched the project to support the 2018 Asian Games being held in the country from August to September.
“Since we wanted to complete sections of the toll road ahead of the Asian Games, we recommended using Volvo’s high performing, fuel-efficient EC210D to help contractors meet their tight deadline,” says Acok Yustanto, director of PT Teladan Langgeng Jaya, a Lampung-based heavy-equipment rental company that leased the excavators to contractors for the toll road project.
The EC210D excavators have loaded and unloaded 1,200 tons of stones to build the base course of the Trans-Sumatra Toll Road. Working 5 to 12 hours a day (depending on the rains), they helped in the land preparation and for lifting material. Scheduled for completion in 2019, the Bakauheni-Terbanggi Besar toll road will boost the local economy by making Lampung accessible to tourists and businesses.
“The EC210Ds are fuel-efficient hydraulic excavators as they use only 12 liters of fuel per hour,” informs Yustanto. “The contractors save on costs, plus the air-conditioned cab and ergonomic seats allow them to work in comfort, which boosts their performance.”
Designed to increase productivity and reduce fuel consumption, the robust EC210D crawler excavator has a maximum bucket capacity of 1.22 m3, maximum slew speed of 12.3 r/min and maximum slew torque of 76.7 kNm. It is equipped with the powerful Volvo D5E engine. It can be equipped with either a top or side-mounted Volvo hydraulic breaker, and is built to break even most demanding materials while delivering consistent power and high breaking force. The Volvo-designed hydraulic breaker/shear piping and quick coupler piping option provide optimum flow to the hydraulic attachments. State-of-the-art auxiliary lines allow correct flow and pressure for special attachments.
Rental company PT Teladan Langgeng Jaya purchased the EC210D excavators from PT. Indotruck Utama, Volvo’s distribution partner in the Sumatra region. “We are glad to be a part of Sumatra’s ongoing transformation as a formidable business and tourist region,” says Gerrit Lambert, sales and marketing director at Volvo’s local subsidiary, PT Volvo, Indonesia. “The EC210D remains a cornerstone of our product range, helping us maintain our strong presence across Indonesia.”
