Wheel Loaders Seeing Stronger Demand
The market for wheel loaders is seeing fresh traction due to the buoyancy in road construction activities. Fresh off take of coal due to a surge in thermal power production is adding to the demand. Users want wheel loaders that deliver higher productivity and lesser operating costs, along with enhanced servicing of their machines across their work cycle.
According to industry estimates, demand for the 3-ton class is up by 30%, while the 5-ton class has grown by 60% this year as compared to 2017. However, the 3-ton continues to dominate the market with an 80% share, while the 5-ton has a 15% market share.

Caterpillar has refreshed its 3-ton, Hindustan 2021 wheel loader, which is now powered by 133- HP Ashok Leyland engine instead of the earlier 115 HP engine. It will be able to load high bodied, conventional tipper trucks, besides railway wagons with ease. 2021 D has an option of air-conditioned cabin, and features joystick controls and an operator friendly seat to enhance ease of operation. Its new 'performance-style bucket' ensures improved load retention by almost 10% such that the loaders have higher heap volumes and the resultant lesser cycle times to fill a truck or wagon. The machine comes with 1.5, 1.7, 2, 2.5 and 3 cum buckets. A new 2.0 cum aggregate bucket is introduced to meet the needs of the growing Quarry and Aggregate Industry.

Says Amit Bansal, Director Sales and Marketing, BCP, Caterpillar India Pvt. Ltd., "2021 D delivers best tractive effort while scooping materials in heaped piles thanks to its time tested drive train. This very simple design mechanical machine has been providing ease of operation and maintenance for over four decades, when it first came into existence."
Caterpillar is estimated to have 6500 active fleet in the market, of which, some have scored 60,000 hours of operation, an indication of their excellent reliability and durability.
SDLG India has supplemented its wheel loaders L933 & L936 (3-ton) and LG958L (5-ton) by introducing L946, a 4-ton for the mid-segment in March 2018. Aimed at crushing and screening application for higher capacity plants of 200 – 300 tph, L946 has the lowest turning radius for short manoeuvrability, and features a standard AC cabin. The lightweight loader, powered by 173 hp engine, delivers higher power to weight ratio.

New H series Wheel loaders are with Variable displacement pump and with mode selectors which make them more productive and fuel efficient in its class. The optimized design of the buckets provides a greater fill factor. Less operating cycle time with synchronized flow results in greater output in less time. Pilot control single lever makes the machine easy to operate. The machines are equipped with GPS which provide accurate data which help the owner evaluate the performance of the machine To strengthen its service and support, Liugong India is offering a extended warranty for this products. Liugong India had already supplied its 856H wheel loaders in various application such as Crusher, Port, plant, coal mining to most of the key account customer through out India. Customer voice itself speaking out for the success of the product as we are getting repeated orders from all our clientele.

JCB presently offers three models in the Wheeled Loader segment: 430ZX Plus, 432ZX, and the latest 455ZX, which is a 'Made in India' machine designed to work for longer hours and at a lower maintenance cost. The world class aggregates used in the machine ensures quality, reliability and value for money.
"The new 455ZX is a 5.5T machine that comes with a Common Rail JCB DieselMAX 672 engine and is targeted for mining, construction, ports, and roads. Air conditioning and fan comes as standard on the JCB 455ZX, ensuring that operators can work comfortably in extreme conditions that sites offer at times. Ergonomic controls, comfortable seats and spacious cabin offer fatigue free operation and enhances productivity of the operator. A stylish, central dash display combines analogue dials and a colour LCD screen for display of the health status of the machine, service requirements and operating information." Says Jasmeet Singh, Head - Corporate Communications and Corporate Relations, JCB India Limited.

In our endeavour to continually innovate and offer the best customer experience to our customers, JCB has recently introduced a Loader Productivity Management System (LPMS) integrated with JCB Livelink - an industry first feature from JCB India. LPMS helps in real time monitoring of individual weight of loaded bucket, total accumulated weight, tare weight, and number of loaded buckets.
All JCB Wheeled Loaders come fitted with an Advanced Telematics technology known as Livelink. It provides real time updates on Service, Operations and Security of their machine and gives vital information to the customer in terms of number of hours the machine has been operational, service intervals, fuel levels, malfunctions if any, in real time. JCB Livelink enables Users, Dealers and JCB have complete control on their machines from any part of the world.

"To monitor these machines in real time, JCB has set up a world class command centre at its Delhi-NCR facility. JCB dealers have also set up similar Livelink command centres to ensure that real time support is provided to the customers as they can now plan for service schedules and also engage with users and customers in preventive maintenance." says Jasmeet.
The 432ZX is a 3.6-ton payload machine with a Cummins 6BTA 150hp engine, a ZF automatic ergo power shift transmission with an electrically operated selector and gear changer. Escorts Construction Equipment Limited, which has recently acquired the entire business of Doosan in India from Ariando (the earlier exclusive distributor), is promoting its higher capacity wheel loaders. Doosan wheel loaders are available in sizes ranging from 2m3 to 6m3 and have proven fuel efficiency, stability as regards tipping load, and greater speed, thereby shortening work time and maximizing productivity.
The wheel loaders have advanced hydraulics that transmits hydraulic power to the loadworking drive to minimize unnecessary loss of power, thereby, boosting efficiency and generating sufficient power for digging, steering, and combination movement. These strengths enable Doosan wheel loaders to be operated at diverse worksites regardless of the weather conditions, topography or application.

He adds, "There is an increasing pricing parity in the 3-5-ton wheel loaders in India. So, we will focus towards the higher end application such as granite and marble quarrying and coal overburden clearance. Focus on higher end application, will make their import financially viable for us."
Doosan wheel loaders with a bucket size of 4m3 or more, generally perform loading works in quarries and small mining sites, etc. Its DL420A model has an operating weight of 22 tons and is equipped with various bucket options including the 4.2m3 General Purpose Bucket and the 4.7m3 Material Handling Bucket, and features a 210Hp Doosan mechanical engine. The DL550 machine has a weight of 31 tons, is equipped with a 394Hp Scania engine, and offers options of 5.7m3 General Purpose Bucket and a 4.5m3 Spade Type Bucket.

"Volvo CE is catering to both general and specialised application needs with its L150H, L220H and L350H Wheel Loaders" says Dimitrov Krishnan, VP & Head of Volvo CE India.
He adds, "Granite, marble quarrying, coal and iron ore handling are amongst the application areas. Our highly fuel efficient, ergonomically designed wheel loaders with long boom attachment, enable convenient loading in high capacity multi-axle tipper trucks. The long boom makes the cycle time lower and tipper fill factor higher." Volvo CE provides Wheel Loaders with standard boom as standard supply while the long boom is an option.

Support Vital
The new wheel loaders placement initiative through newer and revamped products is well expected to raise productive and ensure optimization of machines, acquired by the owners at higher capital expenditure. However, higher optimization of the machines will have to be delivered by the manufacturers through the right product support.
