Reema Transport Leveraging IFMS to Optimize Fleet Operations & Reduce Cost

How has IFMS enhanced the company's operations?
Our operational model ensures streamlined transportation with reduced redundancy, cost efficiency, and scalability, thanks to our strategically placed hubs, skilled workforce, and the significant reduction in turnaround time (TAT) achieved through our Intelligent Fleet Management System.”
We specialize in cold/cool chain and ambient road transportation, and cater primarily to the pharma and confectionery sectors. Our clientele spans a range of industries including Pharma, Chemicals, Packaging, FMCG, Engineering, and Food. In our line of operations, temperature monitoring is the most vital. Temperature sensors help maintain the desired temperature range inside refrigerated trucks or containers. This helps in preserving the quality and integrity of perishable/pharma goods during transit. We have to closely monitor the temperature to ensure we are in strict compliance with all regulations of the industry and our customers.

Please tell us about the fleet size at Reema Transport and how IFMS is helping manage and optimise their usage.
Our fleet comprises around 100 vehicles of various capacities and manufacturers, namely Eicher, Ashok Leyland, and Mahindra, primarily in the ICV segment.
Refrigerated transport business exclusively utilizes the company’s own fleet, while the ambient business operates with a 50-50 ratio between our own and attached vehicles.
Refrigerated Vehicles
- 14’ – 2.5 tons
- 10’ – 2 tons
- 21’ – 4.5 tons
- 24’ – 6 to 8 tons
- 32’ – 7.5 to 9 tons
Ambient Vehicles
- 24’ – 10 tons
- 19’ – 7 to 9 tons
We operate in the major hubs of Goa, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Nasik, Pithampur, and Indore. Real-time GPS tracking allows us to monitor vehicle locations, routes, and statuses, which improves logistical planning, optimizes routes, and enhances our response to traffic or accidents. These strategic locations enable us to optimize routes, reduce transportation costs by maximizing load capacities, and adapt to changing demand and local dynamics efficiently. By monitoring fuel consumption patterns and optimizing routes, FMS helps reduce us the fuel costs significantly. It also helps in detecting fuel theft and inefficient driving behaviours that lead to excessive fuel usage.
IFMS tracks vehicle health indicators and usage patterns, enabling us proactive maintenance scheduling based on actual wear and tear rather than fixed intervals. This reduces downtime due to unexpected breakdowns and prolongs vehicle life. The system monitors driver behaviour such as speed, harsh braking, and idling time. This promotes safer driving practices, reduces accidents, lowers insurance premiums, and enhances overall fleet safety.

What steps were taken to ensure successful implementation of IFMS in your operations?
To ensure successful implementation, we began with a pilot phase, deploying the IFMS in a subset of our fleet. This approach allowed us to validate the system's functionality, gather user feedback, and make necessary adjustments before a full-scale rollout.
We organized training programs for our staff, including drivers and fleet managers, to equip them with the skills needed to effectively utilize the new system. Following the full deployment, we continuously monitor and evaluate the IFMS performance through key performance indicators (KPIs) and user feedback.

Regular reviews and updates are conducted to optimize system usage, address emerging challenges, and leverage new features or improvements offered by the IFMS provider. While the integration has yielded substantial benefits, overcoming challenges such as system complexity, data management, user adoption, cost considerations, and operational disruption requires a strategic and ongoing commitment to optimization and continuous improvement. The integration of the Intelligent Fleet Management System (IFMS) has resulted in a cost impact reduction of 1.5% to 2%.
