DP World Mundra Poised to Generate $9.2 Billion GDP Impact by 2035: Oxford Economics

India's logistics sector continues to gain momentum as world-class port infrastructure enhances global trade connectivity. According to a new Oxford Economics report, DP World's Mundra International Container Terminal (MICT) is expected to contribute $9.2 billion to India's GDP by 2035, supported by stronger shipping connectivity and export growth.
Commissioned in 2003 as India's first greenfield container terminal at a non-major port, MICT has evolved into one of the country's most important trade gateways. Having handled over 19 million containers, including 1.4 million TEUs in 2024, the terminal now connects Indian exporters and importers to 73 international ports, enabling faster and more efficient movement of goods."When infrastructure is built for scale, efficiency and connectivity, it becomes a powerful driver of both economic growth and social progress,” says Hemant Kumar Ruia, Country Manager, DP World Subcontinent (India).

Beyond trade, the study highlights MICT's contribution to workforce development and inclusion. Nearly 25% of jobs associated with the terminal are held by women, while around 10% of employees are under the age of 25, reflecting increasing opportunities for youth in the logistics sector.
The terminal is also supported by an extensive multimodal logistics network, including rail connectivity across Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, and Delhi, improving hinterland access and reducing transit times for manufacturers and exporters.
